GeneDesign is a web-based program for the design of synthetic genes. It consists of several modules that automate the tasks associated with the manipulation of synthetic sequences.
There are many ways to use GeneDesign. Probably the most common is to start with the protein sequence of an
interesting gene and proceed through reverse translation to oligo design. This path is explored in the
Design a Gene section of the manual.
Each GeneDesign module can be accessed and used individually, as well.
Each module is covered in the GeneDesign Modules section of the manual.
Every module has help text that appears at the top of the screen and contains the basic requirements
for the use of the module. The help text will also bring to light user errors in the process and help
diagnose design flaws in the synthetic sequence.
The list of restriction enzymes GeneDesign currently recognizes is here.
It is a non-redundant list; only one isoschizomer for each type of site is used.
See Rebase for other available isoschizomers.
The GeneDesign manual can be downloaded in pdf form.
